You Make Me Smile

Last year we started the tradition of having family pictures taken before Drew left for an extended period of time.  With being a military family we are constantly on the move and pictures make all of these new spaces feel like home.
This Spring when we found out Drew would be deployed for a good part of the year I scheduled to have our 3rd photo session since our tradition began.  We had our pictures taken by Jen Hammer Photography and couldn't be more happy with the new additions to our collection.

This week the Mr and I were saying how much fun it will be to someday tell our grandchildren about our Alaskan Adventures.  With the help of Jen Hammer Photography we even have the pictures to prove it and maybe gross out our grand kids with the pictures of
grandpa kissing grandma ;-)

Flat Top

On Memorial Day we decided to hike to the top of Flat Top Mountain.  It is only a 3 mile hike but straight up! It was a lot of fun and we met another couple who spent most of their lives here in Anchorage but have recently retired to Vegas. We started talking after they asked if they could take our picture to show their friends in Vegas how Alaskans dress in the summer. I guess we are starting to look like Alaskans in our Columbia vest and short sleeve shirts when all the tourist are wearing huge jackets, gloves and scarves.  Yes the tourist overdressed, it was practically a heat wave (high 40's low 50's). From the top our new friends pointed out all of the famous mountains we were looking at and gave us a little bit of the history. We couldn't have asked for a more beautiful clear day for such a wonderful hike.
About to start what we thought would be a "little hike"
The view at the start of the hike was just as beautiful as the view from the top.
The view from the half way point.
The top!

1.5 miles straight up!
The view from the top.

We spotted two Eagles

If you plan on visiting us this summer bring your hiking shoes so we can take you to the top of Flat Top.

Sierra Sunday: Week 12

This week has been bitter sweet. We move to our new house with a huge back yard and so now I have some privacy from mom when I go to the bathroom. I also don't have to be on a leash and I can take my sweet time playing in the fresh air. On the down side, mom and dad haven't given me much attention and walks because they have been busy moving. Anyway here are some pics from the week. Enjoy.

Road Trip to Seward (2)

Road Trip to Seward, Alaska
Part 2

On the way to Seward we stopped at the Alaska Wildlife Conservation Center.
This brown bear (AKA Grizzly) is in a 13 acre home.  We were really lucky to get to see him.

Don't worry... No bloggers were harmed in the making of this post.

We made it just in time for the birth of this little Bison.

Babies first steps...

This was the 2nd time we got to see a Lynx.  The first time was on a drive in the mountains one decided to walk in front of the Jeep.  They are beautiful.

The Eagle

Caribou
We had a wonderful time and highly recommend wearing your rain boots so your feet stay dry.  For more information you can check out their website.

Time to move...

As much as I hate moving I sure love the possibilities for putting my organization skills to the test.  When we found out that the military had submitted our paperwork to the Army forgetting that my hubby is Air Force and we wouldn't have movers for this current move, I jumped on the computer to create a color coded system for moving.  So far it is working great!
The last few nights I have been staying up until about one in the morning packing so I am getting a bit tired but at least I will be in my new house soon.  Do you have any great moving tips?  I would love to read about them in the comments section.

Road Trip to Seward (1)

Our Road Trip to Seward
Part 1

With this being Drew's last real weekend in Alaska we decided to take a little road trip to the town of Seward.  The weather was not the best but we were happy to spend the day together driving along the beautiful Seward Highway.
